The IEEE Conference on Open Systems 2011 will be held in Langkawi, Malaysia from 25 until 28 September 2011. The conference will be organized to invite international delegates to Langkawi; the islands of legends and folklore, renowned internationally as the archipelago of 99 tropical islands, the ultimate holiday paradise to share their latest research findings in Open Systems besides getting to know Malaysia.

This seminar will look at the use and deployment of free and open source software (FOSS) for business and the public sector. The event will look at the positive and negative aspects of adopting FOSS, the challenges it may pose for training and how UK usage compares internationally.

FrOSCamp 2010 Zurich

FrOSCamp is a multilingual two-day event taking place on the premises of the ETH Zurich in Switzerland in September. It is completely free of charge and no preregistration for visitors is required. The event consists of an exhibition, talks, workshops and hackfests featuring free and open source software, free content, open standards, open systems and digital sustainability. People and projects are invited to demonstrate their work and to explain visitors said topics. The event is free of any commercial offerings (save swag, snacks and beverages) and is open to any visitor.

Kieler Linux und Open Source Tage

Es ist in diesem Jahr zehn Jahre her, daß im KITZ zum ersten Mal ein “Linuxtag” stattfand, auf dem die Vorzüge freier Software präsentiert wurden. Zum damaligen Zeitpunkt wurde nicht an eine Wiederholung gedacht, aber 2002 gab es dann doch eine Fortsetzung – und seit 2005 finden die Linuxtage jährlich statt. Waren die Linuxtage zunächst die Veranstaltung eines engagierten Unternehmens im KITZ, wurde mit steigendem Zuspruch eine neue Organisationsform notwendig, die Kieler Linuxinitiative entstand. In ihr arbeitet das KITZ mit einer kleinen Gruppe engagierter Personen zusammen. Gemeinsam wird das Programm der verschiedenen Veranstaltungen erstellt, die über das Jahr verteilt im KITZ stattfinden. Denn inzwischen beschränkt sich unser Angebot nicht auf die Kieler Linux und Open Source Tage, sondern seit 2007 gibt es zusätzlich Abendveranstaltungen rund um Themen der freien Software. Alle Veranstaltungen können kostenfrei besucht werden, dies wäre ohne die Hilfe von Sponsoren nicht möglich.
